A DAY IN THE LIFE OF BUDDHIST MONKS

"A Monk's Life" is a documentary film about the daily life of monks particularly in Bandarban hill tract district. Hill tract Buddhists follow the system of ‘Theravada Buddhism’
In ‘Theravada’ Buddhism, Bhikkhu is the term for monk. Monk is a person who practices religious asceticism by monastic living, either alone or with any number of other monks. A monk may be a person who decides to dedicate his life to serving all other living beings, or to be an ascetic who voluntarily chooses to leave mainstream society and live his or her life in prayer and contemplation.
Their disciplinary code is called the ‘Patimokkha’ which is part of the larger ‘Viniya’.The monks live in monastery and have an important function in traditional Asian society. Young boy, up to 6 and under the twenty, can be ordained as Samaneras or novice. A man, who is up to twenty years old, can be ordained as full monk or bikkhu. The typical day of Buddhist Monk maintains a fixed schedule: wake up at half past 4 or 5am and sleep within half past 10 to 11pm in night. Both Bhikkhus and samaneras eat two meals a day. They take morning meal at 6.30am and take lunch at 11.30am. They are supposed to lead a very simple life and they do their chores.
There are 227 rules for monk and they must maintain 10 precepts in daily life.
